Much hand-wringing in the UK wine press about the average supermarket bottle purchase price being about £4 (of which presumably the wine is about 5p and the rest taxes) - well, let's all cheer up as Fine and Rare, big-time brokers, have just won some export award and the citation includes this mind-stretching statistic:
'The average price of a bottle of wine sold by FINE+RARE increased from £36 in 2004 to in excess of £94 in 2010.'
Average!
Recession? what recession?

How the other half drink
Re: How the other half drink
The recession generally has been very good on average for the people who buy expensive things. This is not even to mention the newer entrants in the aspirational to super-wealthy in developing countries. The people from the middle on down are bearing the brunt of this but that's unexceptional too.
Re: How the other half drink
Yes and middle-on-down Richard is more and more middling and more and more down...

Re: How the other half drink
Oh there's no recession for about 1% of the people in the world.
That's still a lot of people:
6,000,000,000 x .01 = 6,000,000
I was in court yesterday with another one of my criminal clients, charged with running a guy down intentionally with his car.
He works at an egg farm and supports his infant baby and the mother of his child on $8.00/hr.
He can't afford $4.00 worth of diapers, let alone $4.00 for a bottle of wine....
