BWE Convention at San Francisco, 2011

Post by aimeedogdogdog »

This is a final reminder for the 11th BWE convention at San Francisco on May 21st, 2011, Saturday. The convention dinner will be held at hotel Monaco. It starts at 6:00pm with Champagne Welcome. Here is the contact:

501 Geary Street, at Taylor
San Francisco, CA 94102
(415) 292-0100

We would have the Champagne social at Paris Foyer, and then both the sit-down blind tasting and dinner at Paris North. The Paris Foyer is at the open area at the Hotel Lobby, which you won't miss it once you get there through the main entrance. If you are a bit late and we are all in Paris North, you just need to get pass the front desk and the staircase, the ballroom is on your right. Or ask the front desk, they would show you.

Let's have some fun!
Werner

Is a jacket and tie optional or required for the main event?

Hi Glenn,

In the past, people did tuxedo, jacket and tie, or business as usual. I recommend thinking of like going to a high end restaurant, for both ladies and gentlemen. A jacket and tie would fit you right in, no matter what.

Will CabFan wear a white dinner jacket or a Tuxedo?

Wish I had brought my gown back from Cambridge...

I'm so disappointed about not being able to join you all. Sounds like another epic BWE event in the making.

Stefan, I assume you are referring to your academic regalia, or were you planning to come out at this convention? ;)

We'll miss you at the convention, DavidG, my early morning walking buddies aren't going to be there this year. Are there any suggested walking routes in the vicinty of the hotel Werner?

Hard to believe, but it has been nine years since the infamous Nicolas Maltais Napa '02 whoopie pie and dropped trousers incident....

JIm,

If you go down California towards the ocean, you will hit Market St. Keep going towards the ocean, and in a few blocks there would be the Ferry Building. There would be a Farmer's Market on Saturday. The building would be open 7 days a week, and there are a lot of interesting stores inside, like Slanted Door, an oyster bar, a chinese tea store, a wine store, a cheese store, chocolates, olive oil (I saw the italian there singing italian opera one time. Ask him for a song if you are into opera), and other fun stuff. You can eat at some of these stores (even the tea store) or the Taylors for their $18(?) dollar tuna burger. If the distance is not long enough for you from the hotel to the ferry building, you could keep walking along the coast. There would be a lot of joggers and tourists around to keep you company. When you get tired, you might be able to catch a free hotel shuttle back. Just check with the hotel. They have a better idea for different routes around, since you would get there Wednesday and might want to take different routes everyday.

Thanks Werner, looking forward to doing a little exploring of SF by day.
I'm going to be coming in on Wednesday. Looks like the temperatures are about what we have here in the northeast.

Unless you're into gritty wine, the wines really need to be decanted off their sediment if we'll be using measured pourers. These only work (measuremnet wise) if you completely invert the bottle for each pour, which really stirs up the crud...

If you are into hiking, I suggest taking the ferry to Angel Island. Nice hike and cool views of the City. I also like walking from the Ferry Building down to Fisherman's Wharf. A great walk for people watching.

Jill and I have to cancel due to a last minute conflict. We are extremely disappointed as we were very much looking forward to spending time with some friends and enjoying the city of San Francisco.

We hope you guys have an awesome time, we look forward to reading about the escapades online.
Best

Jacques has generously offered to donate one bottle each of 1989 Lynch Bages and the Purple Baron for the Saturday night shoot out. I am bringing them over with me.
