Next event: 1980s Bordeaux from non-trophy vintages

Post by Comte Flaneur »

**The venue is Fabio Piccolo Fiore 230 East 44th Street, start at 630pm**

Saturday October 15th in New York City

In 2008 it was 1986, in 2009 it was 1989, last year it was Bordeaux from the 1970s, and this year I am proposing to do 1980s Bordeaux from vintages excluding 1986 and 1989 (done already) and 1982 (a 2012 event already in the works).

This means wines from the 1981, 1983, 1985 and 1988 vintages (unless anyone has some 1984 and 1987 FGs knocking around - the Mouton 87 would be nice to have).

Ian and Maureen - 1981 Chateau Margaux, 1985 Belair, 1988 Pape Clement (rouge), 1994 Pape Clement Blanc
Jacques and Jill - 1981 Pichon Lalande, 1988 Pichon Lalande, 1988 Gruaud Larose
Chris and Marjorie - 1980 TBA, 1983 Pichon Lalande, 1985 Gruaud Larose and 1988 Mouton-Rothschild
Ramon - 1983 Rauzan Segla, 1985 Canon
Jon - 1988 Lynch Bages, 1985 TBA
Salil - 1988 Vieux Chateau Certan, 1983 Brane Cantenac
Mike - 1985 Cos D'Estournel + sautrenes
Tom Rippe - 1987 Mouton, cali ringer

I would like to participate again this year. Do you have a date in mind? I believe it has been the third Saturday in October each of the last three years.

I strive to be a mere fraction as great as the rest of you, it is my life's dream.
If you are at 12 Ian, I'll volunteer to go on the waiting list.
I would have to source something from pre-1994, anyway!

I have some hope that a wine we'll bring (assuming I really do have what my computer lists) will be voted worst. (Given the theme, I assume we will vote for the worst wines rather than the best wines.) The wine: 1984 Mouton. Does anyone else have a 1984?

Everyone! I was so excited forthis tasting and just found out I need to be out of town. I wanted to let you all know as soon as possible so you can make room for new people.

Is anyone around in summer for a themed tasting on a Monday night at Tribeca or Apriary?

(so pls cancel Marisa +1) in October

I drank all my 84s by the mid-90s stefan - the Mouton and Latour were both very good. I doubt the Mouton would be holding up today, but the 87 Mouton - the one of the Baron's boat-race on the label (his last vintage) - now that is something else.

I love to attend, but it seems that you already have a full plate. Can I be the first alternate. I have a few interesting '85's and '88's.

I am still planning to participate. With all the dropouts, perhaps there is room for Marjorie (spousal unit).

We were really looking forward to seeing Tom In DC (and Gail), DavidG and stefan (and Lucie) again. We will miss you.

My use of "spousal unit" comes from very funny Coneheads skits on Saturday Night Live in the late 70s. Just shows how old I am.

Dan Akroyd (Beldar Conehead) describes his significant other, Jane Curtin (Prymaat Conehead), as "spousal unit"

This event is fast approaching - time to start thinking about the wines.

We can bring 1983 Pichon Lalande, 1985 Gruaud Larose and 1988 Mouton and a surprise 1980.

Definitely in for an 88 Vieux Ch. Certan (could be a fun flight with 88 Pape Clement), and something else from either 85 or 83 that I'll confirm on closer to the date.

Trying to decide what wines to bring. Is two bottles enough or should I bring more?
As Jim is a big Lynch bages fan, I will bring one '88.
I have a few '85's all are up for grabs. Let me know which you would like me to bring.
Haut Marbuzet
La Gaffeliere
La Lagune
Lagrange
Lango Barton
Leoville Barton
Sociando Mallet
These are all listed in my cellar tracker inventory, but I may not be able to locate all of them as I have an off site location as well, but if I can find them I will bring.
Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Wish I could be there. I'm sure there will be some epic wines, even from 'off' vintages.
