2009 Bordeaux at futures prices

Post by Bacchus »

I was surprised to discover that our government liquor authority is still offering 2009 Bordeaux at their original futures pricing; I was assured by officials that these prices will all be lower than the prices they will be asking once the vintage is released to the retail stores. So I'm thinking this might be an opportunity to pick up a few items at a "reasonable" price. That being said, there is no opportunity to taste anything on offer. So, knowing this board has the most discerning taste buds of any, :-) what wines should I be considering. Now don't say Lafite, I'm a college instructor not the CEO of AIG. But I wouldn't mind recommendations for wines up to the $100/bottle range. If anyone knows an '09 that is particularly good in this range, I'd be happy to hear from you.

By the way, Lafite is on the list at $1275 canadian per bottle. Hence my question, just what is '09 Lafite fetching in China these days?

Ya, ya, but you've got to remember, Jim, this is Canada where the government monopolies are pleased to charge their citizens double what you and your fellow Americans have to pay! So in American terms, I guess that would be $50/bottle; $29.95 on sale. :-)

When doesn't a salesman say "buy now, prices will never be lower?"

Bachus.... Try www.liv-ex.com. There's a lot of free info on their webpages. Auction houses also generally report specific auction results.

Bacchus
09 Lafite is not avaialble yet in Aaia.
it won;t arrive till July or so next year.
It was about $US2000 on third tranch prices in HK and SNG.
The prices from 1st to third tranches went up 50%.

The 2010 was released at about the same price though is only sold with an equal supply of Rieussec sauternes!
