Anyone tried the 2006 d'Issan?

Post by Blanquito »

Parker just gave this 94 points and it's still widely available for $40. Wondering if it's that good and worth it in today's wintry economic climate.

Thanks,
Patrick

D'Issan has been on a roll.
Sounds like Graves is a sweet spot in 2006, at least according to the latest Advocate.

D'Issan of Margaux is strong, but RMP says Graves performed best in 2006.
That 2000 we had at that dinner in NYC was a beauty, I wish I had some in my cellar.

I think we should try to get as much Margaux appellation to Dallas '13 as possible.
I'm in a Margaux state of mind these days.

I picked up a few bottles of the 02 on board recommendation years ago. I taste no early released Bordeaux anymore and have never tasted any 02's! I would imagine more sleep is required?

I have some Rausan Segla for Dallas.

Interestingly I got an email this morning for a tasting of 90+ pointer 2009 Bordeaux tomorrow afternoon. It will be a 2009 spitarama. Reno had a horrible evening rush snowstorm last night. Maybe only an inch starting at 3:00 but it quickly turned to icy and very slippery conditions. A top speed commute is 25 minutes under ideal conditions. Last night was 2 hours and 8 minutes. The 10 car pileup at Reno’s notorious Spaghetti Bowl on I80 was a major factor. I woke to up -1F this morning.

I am an insurance claims adjuster and Monday and likely Tuesday will be very heavy and long days.

I love hearing stories of horrible snow storms from the south. Most Canadians can only smile at the turmoil 1" can cause. Here in the east we just endured a noreaster that lasted a full 24 hours, from Thur afternoon to Fri afternoon, and left 50 cm (= 20") of snow on the ground! That snow, moreover, was driven by winds topping 100 km/hr (= 60 mph). Now that's a snow storm! Clean-up is still on-going. Jim, did that storm go through Maine -- on Tues or Wed perhaps?

If we're talking about affordable 06 Margaux, has anyone tried the 06 Prieure Lichine?

No we missed it Bacchus.
We've had a pretty mild winter.
The snowfall in December was a little above average but only one major storm.
January has been mild so far

'06 d'Issan is good; I've had it several times, but I've also had it alongside the '05 in the same night (and recently, and I've had both several times) and they are very far apart. The '05 is monumental compared to what seems like the lively good showing of the '06 IMHO. $40 is definitely a good price though for the '06. I guess I'm just still reeling from the number that the '05 did on me ;-) I managed to snag some more '05 from K&L recently for about $63; was such a steal. Anyways, overall d'Issan is definitely on the upswing and I hope to try more recent vintages.

So the theme for BWE Dallas is Margaux? Sounds good.

Lucie asks whether La Lagune qualifies. In his book on Bordeaux, HWSRN lumps it in with the Margaux Appellation wines.

I too have had the 05 and 06 d'Issan back-to-back, and I agree entirely with Outlier. The 05 is off the charts. I don't understand the hesitant scores it received from the wine tasting gods.

Anyone tried the 09 yet?
