Did anyone taste 2008 Poyferre and Barton, and if so, can they shed some light comparing the two? How do they fare?
Thanks,

I tried both (along with 80 or so other wines) at Union de Grande Cru tasting in L.A. this past January. My preference was for the Poyferre, but that was a personal taste issue rather than trying to assess inherent "quality". As I recall, the Poyferre was more black currant and the oak sort of espresso-ish, while the Barton was more purple fruits/plum with a vanilla-ish oak toast. Both were nice, but I only bought the Poyferre (which was $45/750 at the time), and posted at the time it was among the best at the UGC tasting.

Wow that's a steal looking back...

I paid $60 for the Poyferre in New Hampshire.

Jim, even 60 is ok...Now retailers are asking 70 that too after sale....
BTW Jim, do you order over the internet or just go get them at your local wine retailer?

I live about an hour from the New Hampshire border, Chateau Vin, I make trips down there periodically.

Usually I find prices are cheaper online. Also I get good private client pricing...I think NH does not have sales tax right?

Léoville-Poyferré 2008 is a real stunner - top wine along with Pichon Baron at the UGC tasting (which excludes firsts, Montrose, VCC, Cheval Blanc and the like) in London last year.
