1979 Ch. Pichon Longueville Baron, Pauillac (Bordeaux)

Smelled pretty much of an old leather chair that’s been sitting in the attic, with some old wood as well. Tasted of smooth ripe, but lean, fruit from start to finish. Some dusty notes. This bottle is past its drinking prime, but it still worked well to enhance our Sunday rib eye steak dinner. Nothing earth shattering here, but reminded me of why I like, and continue to be fascinated by, old Bordeaux. B

Haven't had the 1979 Baron but I have really liked the 1979 Lalande. I have been drinking it regularly over the past twenty years. Always very nice - still have a couple bottles left.

I have a bottle of the 1979 (and 1978) PLL, too. Holding off for more special of an occasion to drink. I know that storage etc. are key, and I know that I have good storage. Based on your experience, are they worth storing for a bit more?

Both the 1978 and 1979 Pichon Lalande are holding on but I plan to finish mine in the next year or two - I would prefer to not wait too long. A bottle of the 1978 opened in Minneapolis this past June was very much alive and singing a pretty song.
