1998 Ch. Figeac, Saint Emilion

Steak dinner tonight and I wanted a Cali cab but didn’t have any in my home wine refrigerator. The other choice was a 2002 Smith-Haut-Lafitte and I decided to go with the older 1998 Figeac. Anyway, and to cut to the chase, if this wine was included in a double blind tasting, I’ll bet that most guesses would peg this as New World. Although still quite young, wood, some mocha, layers of black/blue fruit and hint of maple are all present. Not a bad wine, plus I really like the Toulouse Lautrec style label. But, if I’m looking to buy, I’ll probably spend my money on trying other 98s first. B

Interesting thanks Ramon...I had it a few years ago and found it backward, so the rest of the case is lying in storage...perhpaps a case of letting sleeping dogs lie.

A couple of weeks ago I had VCC 98, which was also very backward but a sleek, modern wine, which certainly didnt taste 'old world.' Needs a long time.
