I was talking to Stuart, Tim, and a few others about this in DC.

Start planning ahead now!

One emotion that always grips me at BWE events is poignancy.
These events are so great that I actually get a little melancholy about the fact that we can't do them more often; that some of the participants we won't see for extended periods, if ever again; and that some day these events will end and we will join each other in The Great Tasting Room In the Sky. I never take these BWE events for granted.

Possible locations for the 2013 convention:

Chicago
NYC
Dallas
Miami

I will say that Dallas doesn't thrill us but if veterean BWEs like stefan and HM$ want us there, we will go and we will like it. Stuart told me that Miami would be quite expensive but given this is a yearly event, is that an issue for everyone? NYC and Chicago are fine but can we do it in late April or early May for better weather?

Nice thoughts Jim. I agree.

Unless the date conflicts with a work or academic event that I can't control, I'll go anywhere.

I must admit that I thought Miami was a fantastic location last time.

For France, we can start planning now, although just to set expectations, we cannot ever replicate BWE 2005. BWE 2015 will be an entirely different experience, assuming we can pull it off. And we should plan to spend some more time in Paris this time. Should we plan for Spring again (May?). I hear that 2015 will be the vintage of the century!

Tim, I agree completely on every point. We shouldn't try to replicate '05 but make it unique in and of itself. More time in Paris, definitely! As to the vintage of the century comment, aren't they all?

I was at Ch. Palmer on Wednesday and since they just completely renovated the place I asked Bernard de Laage if they would be renting the château for corporate seminars, weddings etc.

He said no, but that the château will gladly receives guests - and cited the BWE magical mystery tour of 2005 as a good example...

Wow, that's fantastic!

I often wonder if the Chateau owners that we visited remember the BWE tour.

I had a fantastic time in DC, thanks again for having me there. As for France 2015 happy to pitch in and help organize things (and I agree with Tim you should plan on spending some time in Paris)

It's a definite, Claudius, we hope you can join us.
A lot can change in three years but the idea was to give as much notice so that people could have it on their radar.

Alex, do you think it was it the stellar comportment and erudite repartee of our esteemed crew, or Jim's medals that left such a positive impression? :D

Jim, I'm glad to hear you sound so positive about this. Put Peggy and me down for two!

Excusez-moi!! They were TOM's medals! Oh how the memory fades. Must have been all that good Bordeaux and spring sunshine.

Sign us up Jim. I would only ask to have a fixed date far in advance to plan around and not just the year 2015. Once a date is fixed the hype can begin!

Danny

Medals?? What about the silver plated mice courtesy of Tim?

Yes those presentations of the BWE mice were really quite nice and a (hopefully!) lasting memento of our visit.

economically speaking Dallas is a winner, and a fun town nonetheless.

I wonder if some sort of BWE France visit in 2013 is a possibility. I have an itching to go visit the northern Medoc.

What do you think, Alex and Timmy, early September 2013?

I'm all for that as long as it doesn't conflict with our annual sales conference. That usually happens either last week of August or first week of September.

Hi,

Early September is OK, but it would really have to be in the first or second week because people start getting antsy about vintage time.
And there are precedents of the vintage being in full swing by mid-September...

In any event, setting things up months ahead of time is a good idea!

All the best,
Alex
