Some of the wines drank at home during the last couple of weeks.

2006 August Clape Cornas
Decanted for a couple of hours prior to dinner. Fresh meat on the bouquet. Lean fruited and high acidity. Failed to excite me. B

2001 Luciano Sandrone Barbera d’Alba
Wood and ripe fruit on the nose. Sweet, ripe, slightly milky, black pepper, modern. I like the balance. Not cloying. A-

2003 Ferraud-Brunel Cotes-du-Rhone Villages
Tannic, plenty of black fruit. No heat. A pleasing Southern Rhone. B+

2004 Alphonse Mellot “La Demoiselle” Sancerre Rouge
My last of 3 bottles and the best showing. This rustic earthy wine evokes fresh red fruit amidst a tight muscular frame. Will not be confused with elegant Burgundy, but this is a Pinot Noir whose herb and high mineral components worked well. A-

2010 Maison Pierre Overnoy Arbois Pupillin
This slightly cloudy chardonnay from Jura showed woody notes. Lime acidity, medium bodied, but I found quite boring. My first white from Overnoy and makes me curious about trying other vintages. B

2007 Azienda Agricol Cos ‘Maldafrica’ Sicily
A big wine with layers o blue and red berries. Dusty, tannic and a nice level of fresh acidity. A wine to go with bold-flavored foods. B+
