  • 2003 Araujo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley (5/6/2012)
Garnet. Nose just soared from the glass. But a hint of VA knocked a few points off from me. But still, nit picking here. Nose was rich, black fruits and berries. Taste was as the nose without the VA. Smooth and delish. Great. (95 pts.)
  • 2002 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select - USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District (5/6/2012)
Deep garnet. Nose was a smmoth mix of berries, winter spices and vanilla cream. Taste was a tad too warm, slightly enphasizing the ending alcohol, but it was mouth filling, berries, vanilla. Very good and a shame it was warm as it would possibly have shown better. (94 pts.)
  • 1996 Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Champagne Brut Vintage Reserve (Gold Label) - France, Champagne (5/6/2012)
Gold, fine bubbles. That mushroomy yeasty mellow aroma that aged Champagne gets is here. Nice. Taste still had the fruit and acid suggesting some aging can occur. Good. (93 pts.)
  • 2002 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (5/6/2012)
Gold. Nose initially mineral, less obnoxious than when it was younger, With airing, got more fruity. Taste initially was Kabinett level richness, opened with airing to Spatlese. Rich, fruity, mouthcoating. Delish. (93 pts.)
  • 2001 Müller-Catoir Mußbacher Eselshaut Rieslaner Spätlese - Germany, Pfalz (5/6/2012)
Yellow. Nose of citrus and a hint of peppermint. Taste was rich, acidic bright, lip-smacking. (92 pts.)
  • 2002 Pierre Morlet Champagne Millésimé - France, Champagne (5/6/2012)
Pale yellow, fine bubbles. Nose was citric and slight baked bread. Taste was citrus and refreshingly acidic. Makes you want another glass. (91 pts.)
  • 2000 Château La Fleur-Pétrus - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol (5/6/2012)
Garnet. Nose seemed a touch disjointed and flustered-like I caught a teenager in his underwear. Hints of cinnamon, berries. Taste of tobacco, berries, winter spices. Age another 5 years. (88 pts.)

A bit of a surprise at that 2000 La Fleur-Petrus note. You would think THAT wine from THAT vintage would equal a 95+ effort.

Jim, I have had this wine 3 times so far and it has only met expectations once. I'll let the rest sleep a few years more.

A great lineup of wines and good notes-descriptive and concise. Keep them coming. When I'm not tasting at least I can read about it.
