TN: Shafer and 2 Cali Chards

• 2001 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley (6/24/2012)
  purple garnet. Nose was that sweet Shafer nose that is so prominent to me in the Hillside. Berries galore. Taste was middle aged, mellow, rich, mouthfilling. I went to a tasting years ago and a subtext was Shafer HSS versus the regular Shafer. My impression was that in great years there isn't a huge difference. This continues to confirm this. (93 pts.)
• 2006 Peter Michael Chardonnay La Carrière - USA, California, Sonoma County, Knights Valley (6/24/2012)
  pale gold. Nose was muted somewhat, a mix of vanilla citrus and curd. Taste was mellow, mild acid on the end. Nice, but in a middle age stage. (92 pts.)
• 2006 Peter Michael Chardonnay Ma Belle-Fille - USA, California, Sonoma County, Knights Valley (6/24/2012)
  Pale gold/yellow. Nose was citrus and lemon curd. Taste needed time to open but was not bad. 2006 in Cali wasn't the best year for Chards, IMO, and PM did better than most. (91 pts.)
