Our thoughts with John Dawson, aka "PappaDoc".

Post by JimHow »

Many of you here have met John Dawson. I could write volumes about how he is strongest, most generous, kindest person I know. But I don't have to do that because you all know what I am talking about. As many of you also know, John has been battling serious health problems. Jacques sent me the following link. Nobody should feel pressured to contribute to the Zachys "Toughman" event, but if you want to do so, the information is all contained in this link:

http://www.andrewcompetes.myevent.com/

Get well soon, PappaDoc, we are all thinking about you here at BWE. I look forward to drinking a beautiful Lynch Bages with you again in the near future, my friend.

Very true, Jim. The write-up on the Zachy's site also rings true. PappaDoc is a great guy first and a wine lover's wine lover second. I'm sure there's some great parenting skills in there as well, as his son Jackdaw whom many of us know is also a gem of a person.

Wishing you the best Pappa. Off to the Zachy's site to make a contribution.

Never met a more genuine and genuinely nice guy. Also hope to raise a glass when this health issue has been resolved. Best of luck, Johnny. If prayers and good wishes count, you're in good hands.

I still vividly remember first meeting John at Zachys in 2004. His BWE powers were on display as he somehow knew who I was, coming over and offering his infinite wine knowledge and joie de vivre despite a room full of customers. He asked, and I told him I was blanquito from BWE. We talked all things wine for over the next hour. It was easily the most fun I'd ever had in a wine shop. Through the years he also shared with me (at BWE events) 2 of the 3 greatest German Rieslings I've ever had.

All the best John, and here's to your speedy recovery.

Wonderful story for a wonderful man. I only met John briefly at BWE NYC 2004 but that's all it took to understand he was a gentleman first as well as a wine lover, especially German wines, with which he shared with me his knowledge and passion. I hope to see him again, the sooner, the better. All the best to you John.

PD:
Indeed, I remember also you, and your love of those German whites with the crazy long names! Please win the battle so you can join us at our next BWE Annual as we want you back. Otherwise, I'll come by the store when I'm next in NY.

Dear Jim and all,

Your words have had a great Healing effect and added motivation to get me over the
Pot holes this Chemo has thrown at me.

God Bless You All and I hope to be at a BWE function in this Fall. I've loved the Steak House Fabios that Ramon has put us onto near Grand Central Station. We did the 1986 Bordeaux one night and the 1990 Bordeaux Tasting soon after.

Looks like we're getting to that goal, PD! I wish I could be at your German wine dinner, I've got a daylong post-divorce trial on Tuesday up here. I'm sure I will see you soon though.

Jim,

Can't thank you enough for putting the link on BWE. Then again we know how much BWE folk love and support
each other!

Hopefully I'll be taking Zytiga, a new FDA approved drug very soon. If that comes to be, I'd like to do a dinner at Fabios again.
