TN: two excellent Turkish wines.

2009 Öküzgözü; Barans Vineyard; Collectable Series #5: Kayra Vintage
smoke, plum, flowers, damsons and earth, watermelon, cherry, chocolate, earth, minerals, poised and balance. More dark fruit and balance than the fresher red fruited 2008, dust, ash, tobacco, black and red plum, hints of cocoa. Very complex and intriguing, with class and pedigree. So much better than in the warmth of Istanbul. 69-72+/100

2009 Kayra Vintage; Barrel Fermented Chardonnay Sur Lie; Collectible Series 3: Aegean; Turkey
slate, yeast, minerals and a Burgundian lack of fruit, some warmth and sunshine drenched clay, saline, sea air, a bit of fur, flint, butter, smooth, liquorice, creamy, cooked lemons and starch, wonderful length, a hint of sappy sweetness. Gritty, earthy, soil, really superb and contemplative. 68-70+/100

Jono Beagle's hundred point scoring system.
0-29/100 not worth bothering with
30-49/100 good wine but I wouldn't buy a case
50-59/100 very good showing grape and terroir character
60-69/100 excellent example of a wine from this country/region/grape
70-85/100 one of the very best wines that the region has to offer.
86-100/100 one of the very best wines you are ever likely to drink
