Question on Lynch '86
Does anyone know anything about Lynch-Bages '86 prices at auction? Or what prices you have been seeing or paying ? A friend of mine has some to sell and is curious how his broker's offer stacks up.
Thanks!

Re: Question on Lynch '86
1986 Lynch is a Jim How kind of wine. Great estate, great vintage, Lynch Bages was well under way into its post 1982 Jean Michel Cazes modern era, a year removed from the 1985, which ended up being the WS wine of the year, and three years away from producing the greatest Bordeaux wine since the 1961 vintage...

Umm, you did ask for prices, no? If it's a broad sampling of opinions you want, then by golly, try CellarTracker:Chasse-Spleen wrote:By golly, I'm more interested in what people have to say than machines!

Re: Question on Lynch '86
Jim,
Ever try to buy it at auction? Any general idea on a case price? I imagine that LB 86 would be a killer wine!
David,
The only thing I saw on Cellar Tracker was a bottle price of $225 out at Sokolin on the Island. WS Professional, which I don't have, had only three other listings that I couldn't see.

Chasse - the WS Pro listings are in the $150-200 range. CT has a ton of TNs and quotes a Wine Market Journal quarterly auctions price of $167.

Re: Question on Lynch '86
Thanks, David. It looks like the wine is somewhat undervalued to me. How I would love to try it.
Re: Question on Lynch '86
Winebid has a few at $125.50 per 750ml including the premium.
My guess is that the bigger auctions by the case will be slightly less.

This is an excellent Lynch, but not great. The 82, 85, 88, 89, 90, from that decade are better.

I agree with Jim. The '89 is the best LB i've ever had. The '82 is also superb, and i have a personal fondness for the '88, which i bought because it was my daughter's birth year and have always found it to be beautifully soft and wonderfully enjoyable.

What do you think about 90s and 2000s so far?JimHow wrote:This is an excellent Lynch, but not great. The 82, 85, 88, 89, 90, from that decade are better.

1996 and 2000 get two enthusiastic thumbs up.
Re: Question on Lynch '86
The "surprise" winner in that list is the '88. I have a fondness for it because it's our wedding year (HBL, hope you have some '88 Sauternes and Champagne for your daughter!). I brought a bottle of '88 to a BWE Lynch vertical in NYC a few years back, and was surprised to see it finish in the top 3 (blind), lending some validation to my admittedly biased love for it. As Jim would put it, the '88 punches above its weight. The '86 is no slouch, though - another outstanding wine. The '89 is awesome, the '96 and '00 are also fabulous.

WAP shows, inc premiums:
Oct 11 - NY $110
Nov 11 - NY $110
May 12 - Chicago $140
June 12 - London $195
But given Winebid has been struggling to move theirs at $125, I'd say something less than $125 is the correct price. Unless you're a crazy Brit.
