Tn: 2009 domaine charvin

Post by Nicklasss »

I went threw a bottle of the 2009 Domaine Charvin in the last two days.

an amazing wine. Medium red color, superb nose of rasberries, kirsch cherries, light lavander, light white pepper, thyme and something sweet. in mouth, perfect balance, Nice flavors of rasberries, meat, pepper, sweet red berries, and herbs. medium thick, caressing smothness of rasberries, with nice glycerine, and with more air become more and more structured, with some tannins, but stay intense and silky. just a bit of tar and spices at the full end. Very impressive and I will definitely buy more. Mix of 85 percent grenache and 5 percent exact of syrah, mourvedre and vaccarese. À stunner! TN: 93.

Highly recommended.

Charvin is my favorite CdP. Glad you enjoyed it Nic. Give it a few more years of cellar time and it should improve.

You're right Glenn. Charvin has a style that I really like.

I remember trying the Charvin at a past BWE event, and even in a bunch of wines, I notice this was special. This was not available in Québec, and it is the first time I see the 2009 in our provincial liquorstore. A good new.

Reviewing commets from critics, Parker said it is a wine ''kinda similar'' to Rayas. I never had Rayas but I can see some points in commun with the 1995 Henri Bonneau Marie Beurrier I had with SdR in 2006.

A very nice wine and I agree with you, will be better in 10 years. But already very complex and good.

I have not had any post 2001 vintages but I presume they still have glorious red fruit notes with the elegance and spice of good Burgundy.

I once nailed 2001 Charvin in a double blind tasting. Such a pretty wine. I have one bottle left.

Two Right Bankers that really shined with similiar Burgundy elegance and supple texture were 1989 La Dominique and 1986 L'Arrosee.

One of my favorite CdP is the Charvin and been buying vintage-after-vintage since 1998 to 2007. The 2001 is very good.

We had an 01 Charvin together at Fabio's, Ramon? If memory serves, that might have been my favorite wine of the line-up... Charvin is my kind of CDP...

Yup, that's right Blanquito, the 2001 at Fabio's about 3-4 years was very good.
