Chateau Le Grand Housteau 2009 Cotes de Bordeaux

Another '09, this time a cheapie. This wine was on sale from like $15 or so down to a measly $9. Opaque purple with some lighter red and 'milky' highlights, the nose was not terribly memorable. The wine was medium bodied (for these days) and a tad rustic at first, with plummy, earthy notes on the palate. A little bit low acid. After an hour or so, some really nice merlot fruit started to come to the fore, the kind of fruit that is the reason that I love Pomerol. 13% alchohol. Good balance, decent structure. A nice drink, especially for the price. Not trying to be anything way beyond its means, just an earthy, ripe red Bordeaux. I'm going to try it again

An honest wine, just like your notes. Hopefully tasters will take the time to post any bargain 09 and 10s they find.

Thanks, Jim. I can't imagine that this wine would be easy to find. But I'm really encouraged by the QPR of the '09 vintage, at least on the low end. I say, 'keep the notes coming!'
