2010 Riesling Alte Reben; Steppe & Gaul; Pfalz
metals, minerals, apples and lift on the nose, oily, sunflower oil, olive oil, a nice blend of savoury and sweet flavours. Lemons, limes and a hint of wax and honey. A hint of white peach and grass. With a nice balance and good freshness. Perhaps a touch extracted which negates any sense of true sense of place and any earthy character, but still a really lovely wine with nice length. 62-65/100
2011 Sauvignon Blanc, Wairau Cove, Marlborough
fresh, gooseberry, ice, a hint of grass and ripe lime, a hint of raw white fish and shellfish. Simple, easy, but fresh and delicate. Not big and blowsy. Thus quite refreshing and drinkable. Nothing special but perfectly good. 58-60/100
Jono Beagle's hundred point scoring system.
0-29/100 not worth bothering with
30-49/100 good wine but I wouldn't buy a case
50-59/100 very good showing grape and terroir character
60-69/100 excellent example of a wine from this country/region/grape
70-85/100 one of the very best wines that the region has to offer.
86-100/100 one of the very best wines you are ever likely to drink
