2004 Malescot St. Exupery

Buoyed by last night's success, tonight with mashed potatoes and the leftover roasted chicken we drank

2004 Malescot St. Exupery. Another winner! There is no greenness is this wine. Already there are Margauxberries in the bouquet and licorice in the mouth. The midpalate is surprisingly firm. The residual oak imparts some smoke but should integrate completely with some more age. The fruit is very sweet and none comes from a can. Both Lucie and I gave this 90-91 for drinking now, and that can only go up.

Very interesting Stefan. Thanks for posting.
Yeah, I think 2004 got a bad rap.

Bill,

I've been enjoying wines by this producer quite recently. Over the last 3 months, I've had the Malescot '96, '98 and '83. All very good example of the commune.

I had the 2004 chateau Malescot St-Exupery twice, and always been satisfyed and impressed, relative to the vintage reputation. A very good Margaux wine.

I haven't been real keen on the 2000.
