TN: three wines over dinner on Thursday.

2011 Savennières, "Croiso Picot"; Chateau de l'Eperonnière
lemons, limes, cooked/roasted spice and herbs, grass, some fur and animally, sweaty notes. Nice minerally length, orange peel, zesty, but with a richness, and honeyed breathe, chameleon like and long. Elegant, balanced and drinking quite nicely. With air, this becomes more honeyed, subtle and long. Hay, wet dog, long, effervescent, and restrained, there is certainly space to develop.  Perhaps not a keeper but really lovely 66-69/100

2009 Marsanne; Tahbilk, Nagambie Lakes, Central Victoria
wax, lemons, cooked lemons, sherbet, citrus, spritz and with some richness. Perhaps lacking a mid-palate. Quite classic and very Marsanne but with orange, honey, quite long but it seems either closed or hollow. It needs time but there is some pleasant notes and it is classically styled. 61++?/100

2011 Valpolicella Classico; Cantina di Negrar
ripe, round and easy, with lots of blueberry and plum aromas. Nicely balanced, with hints of tobacco, ash, herbs, graphite and some earthy minerals notes. Simply, supple and alluring. Very nice and with more weight and length than one would expect from a Valpolicella that costs £22.50 in a restaurant! 60/100

Jono Beagle's hundred point scoring system.
0-29/100 not worth bothering with
30-49/100 good wine but I wouldn't buy a case
50-59/100 very good showing grape and terroir character
60-69/100 excellent example of a wine from this country/region/grape
70-85/100 one of the very best wines that the region has to offer.
86-100/100 one of the very best wines you are ever likely to drink
