I bought some '10 Giscours. Now I see I must also buy the '09.

I just ordered 6 more bottles, I now have 13 bottles in the cellar for consumption 15-30 years from now, but I'll bring a couple bottles to Dallas.

The 2009 Giscours is almost to Margaux what Haut Bailly is to Pessac, it has that same balance, lightness on its feet, yet tremendous depth that we've been seeing from Haut Bailly in recent vintages.

Well, well, well. In celebration of the fact that I wasn't swept away with yesterday's apocalypse, I pulled the cork on the 09 Giscours -- first time! Jim is right guys, it is a stunner. Get it while you can.The nose alone will blow you away. Really pretty. I found the first few mouthfuls quite tannic, but I expected that considering its age. They're not mean tannins; fruit rather than wood I suppose. After a few hours, however, the tannins started to recede, or blend in better. It's the full-flavoured yet light-in-the-mouth quality that really appeals. Not thick or syrupy like CA cabs or Aussie Shiraz so often is. Or the 05 Beausejour Becot for that matter. Good balance, good length, nothing tart, yet good grip. It's also got a really good finish; it's long and has a very gentle, slowly fade away effect. Yum yum yum yum yum! Margaux berries all over the place. Bit of oak with both vanilla and chocolate, but nothing over-powering the quintessential Bdx quality. If you're a leather lover -- you know who you are -- not so much; at least not yet. In my experience, that end of the palate often comes along with a little more age. The only question is, do I go back today for a box, or do I pick it up tomorrow.

First 09 giscours is officially in the cooler

I forgot to report that I had this wine with AlexR in Bordeaux. And we agree that the 2009 Chateau Giscours is a great wine. Me too, liked it very much, with almost perfect balance between Margaux berries, flowers, more dark berries, and a very long final. Almost astonishing! TN : 94-95. How such a young wine can be sooo good?

The sensuality you're finding in 2009 Giscours is the style of the 2009 vintage. It's not specific to Giscours, it's something you're going to enjoy in many wines from 2009. I imagine many wines will never shut down. While they will not mature for years, a lot of wines will be fun to drink young and they should be able to age and evolve.

Saw a bottle of the second wine of Giscours, La Sirene de Giscours, at one of our local wine shops at an affordable price ($32). Decided to purchase a bottle and try with beef ribs on a Saturday night, slow cooked on our grill.

Double decanted about 3 hours before serving. Initially served a bit cold since I left it outside at 50 degrees for about an hour. Still, somewhat closed in, and remained relatively closed in througout dinner even as it warmed up, with muted casis and leather that persisted into the mid-range with moderate, relatively round tanins in the mid-range and finish. Somewhat short length on the palate. A relatively good wine that is obviously much too young, would like to try again in 4-5 years. If I were scoring it now, I would give it an 87 or so. Certainly would be interesting to try the 2009 Giscours with its second wine now and at a later date.
