The 2005 Mongeard-Mugneret Fixin has been uncorked....

Post by JimHow »

We liked this at the 2005 extravaganza in my hotel room in Chicago(?) a few years back.
Lovely Burgundy perfume fills the kitchen upon uncorking.

Mmm I nice earthiness and balance on the palate. Not acerbic or tart or acidic on the first sip.

Does anyone know what Burghound gives the 2009 and 2010 versions of this wine?
I don't think he scores this property very high, but I've enjoyed the several bottles of the 2005 that I've had.

Jim,
I think that producer is a bit modern and forward, but really good, nonetheless. I had a Savigny from them a few years ago and it sounds similar to your wine. They are Burgundy Devils.

I liked it, Chasse. Very solid. I'm going to get a few of the 2009 Mongeard-Mugneret Fixins for $35. They still have the 2005 Mongeard-Mugneret Richebourg for like $190 I think, have never been able to pull the trigger.

That sounds like a great deal. Does Burghound say anything about it? I'll try to check at work.

Historically the Echezeaux and Grands Echezeaux have been the stars in the Mongeard-Mugneret line up. I never tasted a Richebourg from M-M.

Jim - Burghound did not review the Fixin, but did the Fixin Fondeman in 2009 and 2010. My lack of technical prowess at cutting and pasting on a Nook will result in some gross summarizing; the scores are in the same range as 2005's review of the Fixin (87 - 89), he makes some comments about the inclusion of stems resulting in a floral nose, and he says the wine is a fair value although he didn't label either 09 or 10 as recommended like he did the 2005.

I've been meaning to taste several lower end 2009 and 10 Burgundies and have Audoin Marsannay's on deck.

I'm going to get some 2010 Jadot Clos des Ursules this afternoon, do you know what BH says about it? I don't think he's usually too high on Jadot, but I like it.

BH places both 2009 and 2010 vintages of the Ursules in the "sweet spot. Outstanding!" Category with a 92 on the 2009 and a 91-93 on the 2010. He says the 09 seems more like an 08 in typicity (not as ripe or plush, with more acidity); both have noticible wood is better integrated than Jadot's lower level wines, already layered and complex, the 2009 may be ready to drink by 2016, the 2010 a few years beyond that.
