TN: Portuguese Red goes Burgundian!!

Post by JonoB »

2006 Tinto da Ânfora, Grande Escolha; VR Alentejano, Quinta da Bacalhôa
Opened exactly a week ago and saved with a Vacuvin. As such, this is representative of this wine in perhaps 5-10 years if well stored??
smoke, cassis and dark plum, with earth, minerals and an oyster sauce and slate note. Not as big and bold now it has softened, in fact it is slightly intriguing and showing a more silky, smooth and herbal character. Mint and angostura bitters, with soft tannins and balance. Sea breeze, sea shells and good length, some crunchy red plum and cranberry breaking through, it is really softening in the glass and showing more lift and inner perfume. A touch of spice. Really beautiful and long but simply loveable rather than massively complex. 64-66+/100
