NV Crémant de Loire, Langlois: Chateau Langlois
Chenin, Chardonnay & Cabernet Franc
lots of rich, round, nutty and autolysis aromas, a hint of vomit and almond syrup, lemon, lime and chalk. Vinious and Champagne like but with a more furry, animal and shale minerality. Clearly not from Champagne but it would easily rival the majority of NV Champagne's around. A richness and depth that is uncannily vintage in style. Zippy and fresh, long and poised. Seriously impressive given how reasonably price this is! 66-68+?/100
2009 Pinot Grigio, Cycles Gladiator: Napa Valley, California
honey, almonds, peach and minerals, rich and with a grape rather than sugar sweetness. Classically Cali, but with a wink to good Fruili/Alto-Adige. Peach, lychee, vanilla, some reduction, but very good acidity and length. Sweet popcorn and cashew nuts. Almost a slight pistachio salt note as well. Not hugely complex or deep, but it is loveable and idiosyncratic and a very Californian take on easy drinking. You could mistake it for an easy Chardonnay from Europe. Very pleasant and has some excite and intrigue that makes it better than its intrinsic qualities. 58-61/100
