There is not much burgundy here (unless Tom's other 75% is tilted heavily toward burg-but of those cellaring burgundies, how
is it split between red and white? Just curious due to the premox issue, and with claret through the roof some of my
collector friends are adding more burg rouge(although not that cheap either). Sorry, just saw Tom's added notes on %. JM

Overall, we're looking at 42% French, 42% Italian, 9% USA. ...

The other (non-Bordeaux) 17% from France is a bit more Rhone than Burg, but that balance is tipping in the Burg direction as time goes by.

The Italian wines are mostly Barolo and Barbaresco (like Bordeaux, 25% of the total cellar), and plenty of Brunello, but they come from all over the country .
Strewth! Crikey! Strike alight! You are brothers? Is that something to do with the immaculate ovum (con)fusion?

This reinforces my theory that all BWErs are from the same Amphibian gene pool.

Fifteen years ago, my Burgundies were 65% red and 35% white. What with premox and changing tastes, the Burgundy in my cellar is now 94% red and 6% white. I haven't bought any white Burgundy in three or four years. These days I generally prefer Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc rather than Chardonnay.

I like St. Innocent's pinots a lot, Stefan, but I don't have very many. How much do they normally cost in a good year?

Is St. Innocent a subscription wine? When I was working at Sherry-Lehmann, I checked to see if they had it and they didn't. Come to think of it, I don't know if I've ever seen it anywhere.

It is possible, but difficult, to find SI in stores. You can order from the SI website and you get a really good price break if you belong to their club. In fact, the only way to get the Special Selections is to belong. In my most recent purchases my prices as a wine club member were

2010 Zenith $30.00
2010 Shea $37.50
2010 Momtazi $27.00
2010 Justice $41.50
and .
2011 Shea Special Selection $48.

I bought cases of all except the 2011 Shea SS. It was either stupid of me not to buy a case of it, too, or there was a limit of 6 bottles; I don't recall. My impression now is that 2010 is not as good a vintage as 2008 or 2009, but the prices are essentially the same.

The whites are also nice and really cheap; e.g., $16.50 for single vineyard Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc in 2011.

Looking again at my invoice I see that I paid 10% less than those prices for everything other than the 2011 Shea SS.

I'm frankly shocked at your percentages HM$. Stunned, really.

The numbers don't tell the whole story, Jim.

25% of my cellar is Rhone and Bordeaux, my two favorite red regions.
25% of my cellar is German.
10% of my cellar is Quilceda Creek, dating as far back as 1989 (over 75% of the USA wines).
10% of my cellar is Amarone or Barolo/Barbaresco (all of my Italy wines)
14% of my cellar is dessert wines or port from Portugal/Loire/Hungary/Austria.

And, I am most proud to say that I have exactly 0.00 bottles of red burgundy/pinot noir, having exorcised that grape from the cellar many years ago.

That leaves only about 15% of the cellar unaccounted for.
