I'm going to make a bold statement (about 2009 Haut-Bergey).
So I decided to re-try this wine last night, to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and to see if I want to buy another half dozen bottles at PJs for under $30 each. I liked it! It was very enjoyable from first sip to last, a classy effort. Dare I say: Pessac-like! I'm definitely buying six more bottles at under $30 on sale.

I still think the new Bordeauxs are too round but I did enjoy that second bottle of 2009 Haut-Bergey. It's no Sociando Mallet, though.

Jim you forgot to add "I know Sociando Mallet. Sociando Mallet is a friend of mine."

Lol believe it or not I actually thought of that line.
They're both delicious in different ways. i'm definitely picking up more bottles of both 2009 Haut Bergey and 2009 sociando Mallet.

On the affordable side of things, I'd also recommend the 09 Gloria. In terms of elegance, I'd put it between the Haut Bergey and Giscours. It was also another one of those wines that improved 24 hours after opening. I think it'll prove to be a very nice wine and a very good deal. Makes me wonder about the Saint Pierre, which I haven't tried.
