TNs: some more basic everyday wines:

Post by JonoB »

2010 Plantagenet Riesling, Mount Barker, Western Australia
lemons, lines and ripe apples, quite full and broad, good acidity and metallic bite, with hints of minerals, almost slaty but it is all about fruit. A hint of angostura bitter and biting fresh lemons and a sort of lemon cheese cake note. A Riesling with hips, a figure but definitely not overweight. 57+?/100

2012 Sauvignon Blanc, Robertson Winery, Robertson South Africa
lots of gooseberry and tropical fruit, round and forward with lots of cooked lemon and boldness. Very fruit forward but with some hemp and grass. Pretty straightforward but it is well made and has interest... 55/100

2009 Malbec Reserva, Bodegas Norton
silky red and black plum, with some hints of cassis in the background, rounded and balanced with an elegant plumpness, some herbs and fresh bitterness, there is plenty that is appealing about this as a drink, but it really is just for quaffing. Excellent everyday food wine as it is rich but not overblown and benefits well from being high altitude grown grapes. Plenty of fruit, some herbs and decent complexity on the finish. It does become leaner with air, but it is very rich. Acid makes this enjoyable with venison Wellington!! 64+/100

2007 Nordoc Chardonnay, VdP D'Oc
simple, mature and tropical, with lots of stewed lime and picked lemons, with some hay and honeyed notes. Oxidative but still alive. Probably better a year or two ago, but there is still some interest here. 54-/100

2007 Chardonnay, Braide, Venezia
honeyed and bold with lots of lanolin and wax, nice development but there isn't a huge amount of depth; it really could be from anywhere. Good length and some herbiness on the finish but with some poise and some food friendly astringency. It almost feels like it might have a second wind, it has some hidden je ne sais quoi! Plenty of ripe apple, dark plum and some animal, wet wool notes. The more you taste it the more it grows. I wouldn't give it more than 6-1 2 months. In fact, I'd watch it over an evening in a glass right now. Jack fruit, pineapple, stewed lemon and lemon curd. There is some fresh citrus that lingers. This isn't dead! 62/100
