Tea TN: two Keemuns.

Post by JonoB »

Mao Feng Co-op, Keemun 397
(lowest grade of this black tea style, brewed for three minutes at 73 degrees Celsius):
clean, crisp, camphor and tea tree mushroom. Plenty of dried plum and earth, oxidative and fairly fresh. Hints of grass and spice, nutmeg and almond. Good breathe... Very pleasant but not particularly typical. Very dusty and with some tannic bite! Some toffee and caramel as the tea cools. 62/100

Mao Feng Co-op; Keemun 647
(Three minutes at 80 degrees; highest grade)
wood, caramel and boiled sweets, plenty of camphor and a dusty character. This shows less weight than the lesser quality Keemun. Lots of cassis and cocoa beans, with hints of grass and hay. Sappy length, but not the bright acidity. It really does remind me of some old dusty furniture warehouse in Hebei! Lots of complex and plenty of intrigue, but somehow there is something missing, and it can only be that life and zest that great beverages have. High quality but it somehow lacks that last extra hop, skip and jump! 72+?/100
