Merus Cabernet

Post by hautbrionlover »

I had never had a Merus Cab, although I had read about them and was impressed with the reviews they have gotten.
This past weekend I had the 2006 Merus Cab with friends, and I was surprised to find that I was unimpressed.
It has remarkable extraction and depth of ripe fruit, qualities which, in theory, I usually like. But its alcohol was 15.4%, which I did not find appealing, and it was kind of jammy, lacking the acidity which i think would have given it freshness and balance.
Has anyone else had this or other Merus wines, and, if so, what were your impressions?
