Just knew I was going to love this when the Cali cab fans just sort of stared at what they had just tasted, sux to be them!

Gorgeous grand funk railroad on the nose! Followed by dried earthy cherry and mushroom...smooth polished tannins, the merlot builds the longer it's opened, earth, hints of bandaid and tasty leather meets a jab of coffee on the finish..one of the best wines this year. 94points

I bought some of it on futures, way back in '99. I've only had one bottle, but I recall thinking it was excellent.

It is supposed to a Petrus look alike. Had it serval times. Lovely wine. Unfortunately there is little left.

I'm making roast butternut squash & fennel, with applewood smoked bacon crumbles over rigatoni tonight, and opened a 95 La Grave a Pomerol while prepping all this. It's edges are bricking, but the bouquet is a fine mulberry, fruitcake. It starts sweetening after breathing for an hour. It's not as rich nor deep as the otherworldly 1998, but its a good medium bodied wine. Great silky texture. I guess they don't keep as long as sibling estate Latour a Pomerol (to wit the 1970 LTaP that Nicklass poured for us a few years ago) but they still age well enough. 20+ years is solid for this and I don't plan on holding the last bottle longer than next year.

The SO is taking a nap as I tap this up while monitoring the oven. If she doesn't get up in time, there may not be any of this 1995 left

This ('98) is one of the best right bank wines I have ever tasted....glad to see the '95 was also a solid drinking experience.

Never had a Latour a pomerol.

I have some 2006 LaP. It was tight and light when first sampled a few years ago.

Newer La Grave a Pomerol '09,'10 were tough to assess. Not sure they will offer the same brilliant classic claret style I seek.

If it's a Pomerol from 1998, good chance it's going to be really good. Every one I have tried has been wonderful.
