New Dallas Info

Post by hm$ »

First, for reasons that we need not discuss now, I have moved the venue to Bijoux. The contract is signed. We have a private room from about 6:30 - 10:30ish.

Money: The dinner (5 courses, incl. cheese), all in, should be around $120-125/person, which will cover plenty of glasses and extra tip money for the staff. If you want me to do so, I will order 6-7 bottles of champagne to start with -- my guess is that would add about $20/person to the cost. You can paypal me (hms7@cornell.edu) or send a check to:

Howard Spector
Spector & Johnson PLLC
12770 Coit Rd
Suite 1100
Dallas, TX 75251

Wine: I encourage you to ship me your wine, since it will reduce bottle shock and I can get the wine to the venue ahead of time. All wine will need to be to me no later than Saturday morning since I want to make the final delivery on Saturday afternoon.

Thursday/Friday venues:

I will reserve one venue for Thursday (Bordeaux v. Cali) and two venues for Friday (Pinot/Burg swill for the majority of you; Spanish and/or Rhone for the rest of us). There will be an open house at my home Friday afternoon (or if folks prefer, Saturday afternoon -- thoughts/feedback are welcome). I will provide food and wine, but be forewarned that a sizeable portion of my cellar is comprised of german wine and/or dessert wine, so if you are not excited to try the 2007 Schmitt's Kinder Randersackerer Sonnenstuhl Scheurebe Trockenbeerenauslese, you may want to bring something.

Thanks for all of the effort. Champagne to start sounds good and I'd rather kick in $20 than bringing another bottle.

Count us in for two each night Thurs-Sat. We'd prefer the Spanish/Rhone on Friday than pinot/Burg.

I will assume you will let us know a final figure before I send a check for $125. I'm not good on writing an about/around # on a check.

I could probably get a couple bottles of 2003 Dom Perignon if anyone wants to bring some champagne as well, or we can order from the restaurant, it doesn't matter to me.

I was thinking more like 1982,1985,1986,1989,1990.................

But if it is all bad after 1994/5 then "blind me with science" and let's prove it.

Hi Howard,

Gail and I both plan to attend Thursday and Friday nights' dinner - we'll be at the under-flavored swill table on Friday.

Are the Friday dinners at two different venues? I wouldn't want those Spanish/Rhone folks gettin' all jealous and starting a fight. :-)

It would be great if you pick up the bubbly for Saturday - room for more reds in the BD's luggage!

I won't lie and say the check's in the mail, but it is in an envelope and the envelope has a stamp on it...

See you soon,
Tom and Gail

The 2 friday night venues will be different. I did not think the burgundy drinkers would want to risk that some stray, fruit-laden, wine molecules would spoil their pinot.

Sounds like most of us are voting for the extra $20 for Champagne, so I'm assuming we'll go that route. My check for $290 for two of us on Saturday is on its way. If that turns out to be too much Howard just keep it and put it towards a bottle of something for you as a thank-you for doing all the work to get this going.

It's still just me for Friday's Spain/Rhone dinner.

We'll both miss the Thursday warmup as we'll be visiting with family in the area.

The Perot Museum looks interesting. I've been advised to get tickets ahead of time online if you want to go. Peggy and I are likely to do this on Friday.

If you want to go to the Perot science museum, go Friday, when there will be fewer kids.
It is right near 6th Floor museum, and Nasher Sculpture, and Crow Asian Arts museum, so you can do more than 1 in a day.

Howard,

I'd like to go to the Perot Museum as well. I'm just going to ask Howard about his plan to have a open house at his place. If it's on Friday afternoon I may try and do the museum Thursday afternoon. If Sat then Fridays fine.

Could you clarify Howard svp.

I think it will be friday. sat. will require me to do some coordinating with Bijoux for the main event.
But a noon appointment Friday at Perot will give you plenty of time to stop by at my home.

Are there any general parameters/themes for Saturday night?

A free for all? Or did I read some interest in Haut Brion? But that's not Northen Medoc is it?

I just want to stat putting a box to ship together.

Fri - I dug up some Spanish stuff. One older (73?) and a few newer (01?). Not easy to find since I only have/had a few bottles.

Sat - I am bringing an 81 and 85 HB.

Plus some Sauternes.

I am planning on doing the Friday night Burgundy dinner. Thinking of bringing 2002 Mongeard-Mugneret Grands-Echezeaux.

Also planning on a 1998 Haut Brion for Saturday night.
