The 2009 Giscours has been uncorked and other ramblings....
Ah what a week!
Trying to get my desk in some semblance of order. Heck, trying to get my affairs in order.... In preparation for Dallas '13....
Expecting a press conference this weekend from internationally-renowned law-philanthropist Jimmy "Lynch 'The New Lafite' Bages" How.

Man this wine has a great "mouthfeel," whatever that means.
It was closed at first, nothing on the nose immediately after uncorking, but now this baby is singing on all cylinders.

Way to go, Jimbo!
I should be banned. Killed the remainder of a Copain tonight, then reached for a St Em, and pulled out a Bojo instead. I am not worthy. I should probably go shave my legs or something . . . .
Glad I bought some of this Giscours that you recommended!

You are an exceptional BWEer, Orlando Robert, you and that other guy.
Yeah, this wine is going to be amazing in 15-25 years. Frankly, I find it amazing now.

The 2009 Giscours is very nice, but too expensive hère (109 $).

Yes, another one has fallen. Giscours has become yet another Bordeaux that has succumbed to inaccessibility due to price.
Next up: Cantemerle.
Next up: Cantemerle.

I hear ya, Nic. I've got to pay the same as you, of course, but I like the 09 so much I'm going to bite the bullet and buy some. Who needs to retire anyways?!
Re: The 2009 Giscours has been uncorked and other ramblings....
Nah, Cantemerle is only a 5th growth and has only an Haut-Medoc appellation, while Giscours is a 3rd growth Margaux. It will be a while before the price of Cantemerle goes into the stratosphere. HWSRN tried to drive up the price the the 3rd growth La Lagune, which has been making great wines for a long time, but was only partially successful. Why? L-L, like Cantemerle, has only the Haut-Medoc appellation.

I guess time will tell whether you're right Stefan. I'm not so sure I agree with your La Lagune analysis. That wine, which could be had for $25-30 a few years ago, is now up in the $80 range, and rising.
Re: The 2009 Giscours has been uncorked and other ramblings....
La Lagune 2010 is available many places for less than $65, Jim. Many people would rather buy Duhart Milon for over $100. That makes me happy.
My estimate is that absent Parker's raving about the "improvement" at La Lagune the price would be $10-$15 less. We have not seen a $30 La Lagune for a long time.

Don't Forget that wines like tertre roteboeuf, with no classification, has a high price as rated high since many years...
La Lagune want up hère too: 40$ a few years ago, now 95$...
I agree that Cantemerle is at risk... Like Tour Carnet and all other classified growth...
