Is it bad to like a modern, slutty Bordeaux?

Post by OrlandoRobert »

2005 Ch. Pierre de Lune, St. Emilion Grand Cru.

A micro estate of only one hectare, made of 90% merlot and 10% cab. Only 200 cases made.

Full-on modern Bdx but well made. Lots of chocolate, licorice, ripe black fruits, spice and French oak. Not viscous like many of these new-fangled modern darlings, moderate in acidity and alcohol in check. Totally approachable right now. I'm thinking I'm gonna slowly start drinking in to my '05 St. Ems. They are opening up.

I'm more of a traditionalist, but once in a while wines ike this are fun. Just had some pedestrian grilled steak and needed a decent wine. Wines like this are a hit at dinner parties.

Not bad at all.

Parker 95. I'm not close to that, but I like it right now.

Modern Bordeaux can be nice, example for me would be the Thunevin St-Emilion 2009 Clos Badon I had lately. And it is ok to like them, when they're good!

But even If there are some good modern Bordeaux, never had the same emotion as with a 1978 Château Ducru Beaucaillou as example.

= direct and proximate Parker legacy. I'll put that in his plus column.*

*Yes, I am going to see how many responses in a row I can use this.

+1 on the plus column - there are so many more folks making good or better wine lately, rather than the juice going to the local co-op on it's inexorable slide to the hypermarche'.
