2002 Pichon Baron

Post by finner »

Cork had some tartrate crystals attached; I've never seen that with a Bordeaux. Nice nose of saddle leather and band-aid. This '02 Baron has finely combed tannins with bottle-sweet fruit, and balance in spades. The finish is long-lasting. This Pauillac is drinking superbly at 11 years out. Gone are the days of paying $40 at release and getting a wine like this. 93 pts.

Could be, but the good Brett, not the evil kind.

It had slight, classic band-aid.

We were able to get it for $30 in New Hampshire.
I have a case, when shall I crack it open?

Gosh Jim, I can see no reason not to crack a case open at this point.

I did a 2000-2010 vertical of Pichon Baron back in November, and the 2002 was the best of the rest...after the 2000, 2005, 2009 and 2010, all of which are extraordinary. I bought a half case and only have one left. It is a delicious wine. It is drinking very well now, but has a good life ahead of it.

I have only some 2001 and 2003 Pichon Baron. So if I mix them together, will that give me some 2002?

I bought over two cases in NH and am reduced to four lonely bottles left! This never shut down and has been a constant pleasure. Ahhhh the good old days were not that long ago buying this for $30/bottle
