2010 Monbousquet uncorked ...

This started off dark and brooding, a napa-esque nose of blackberry twizzler and cedar which was very licorice and spice driven on the palate, quite good but still very youthful with the alcohol poking through a little (93-95)

Purchased for $38.99 at Total Wine in Norwalk, CT.

I hear you and if I only had 1 btl I wouldn't have opened it but as I found this wine somewhat locally at a very attractive price point (cheaper than what I had paid for my futures case purchase from JJBuckley (the good news is at least I can cost average downwards ) so I figured it was a no brainer and worth seeing if it was something that I might be interested in stockpiling. I drank, I liked and subsequently bought more.

Bottle unfined and unfiltered, it exhibits notes of Christmas fruitcake, black raspberry, cedar wood and spice box and has a full-bodied, fleshy, succulent mouthfeel, sweet tannin and decent acidity along with the tell-tale purity that always seems to emerge from the Perse estates. This wine should drink beautifully for at least 12-15 or more years.

The once proud NH stores put their 2010s on the shelves today, the prices are laughable.

I've had it a couple of times: sleek, modern, plenty of oak.
The kind of wine you are glad to have tired once, for the experience.

Totally down with AlexR on this -- very modern, ridiculous $$$$$. I can suggest a few California Sauvignon Blanc's that are of the same style for many fewer ducats.

I found the '09 Monbousquet to be lovely too. I've opened just a handful of Bordeaux from '10 so far (d'Issan and Haut Bergey) and find them difficult to assess at this point in their evolution as they are so big and tannic.
