2010 Vrai Canon Bouche: Pretty damned stunning.

Post by JimHow »

Wow! This wine is very impressive. Very concentrated, but not over-extracted. Stunning midnight purple color. Black licorice, blueberries, a big merlot but not voluptuous, very classy, very smooth going down. The 14.5% not over intrusive, at least at this point. This wine is going to age well for a couple decades. Only half way through the bottle, will report back.

Flowery nose. Good complexity here.

Strike one for a good, inexpensive Bordeaux!

Interesting, will seek it out.

My local guy has the 09, but I avoided it given these tasting descriptors:

"A big, sweet, ripe nose of raspberry jam"
Parker

"hints of cream"
Suckling

"very lush, flattering style, offering anise-framed plum and fig sauce flavors laced liberally with toasty spice and fruitcake notes, with a broad, toasty finish"

I liked the 2003, although it was past its prime after about eight years.
This is a whole different ballgame.
The only question is whether the alcohol will intrude.
