My brother is coming for dinner tonight. As we see each other a few times a year, it is time to open a nice Bordeaux!
I have marinated some beef filet mignon is garlic/ginger/Rice vinegar/sesame oil/soya, that will be grilled on the gas bbq.
So should I go for a 1996, a 2000 or a 2001 Bordeaux? Or maybe a 2002 or 2003?
What I have:
1996 GPL or Lagrange
2000 Clos Fourtet, Branaire or Canon La Gaffelière
2001 Pichon Lalande or Pichon Baron or Branaire
2002 Clerc Milon or Smith Haut Laffitte or Mission Haut-Brion (why not)
2003 Lynch Bages or Duhart Milon
Or something younger like
2006 Pavie Macquin, Haut Bailly or Pontet Canet (why not)
Or even younger?
Nic

1996 Lagrange or 2000 Canon La Gaffelière would be my choice.

96 GPL is a great, great wine that has been coming into its own over the last couple of years and I would pick that hands down and would probably also let it breath in a decanter for 30 minutes in order to allow for it to open up fully.
Re: Need advices for a Bordeaux tonight
I second the 96 GPL-if its not too late. I just got home from a few heavys myself. JM. I think it is too late.

Nic,
Stefan beat me to the recommendation. 96 lagrange is wonderful and 2000 clg is great. Your brother and you won't be disappointed.

I'm sure Nic is going to uncork the 2003 Lynch to give us a report at the ten year mark.
