2004 Chateau Talbot

Post by jmccready »

Should have decanted this so it took a while to open. Dark brick brown middle, garnet rim. Smokey light oak in nose, blackberries, plums
and other dark fruits later. Rich supple palate, very St Julien like. Modern in a way but the vintage pulls it back a little. Plenty of
supporting tannins, some probably from barrels, but not overly structured. Needs 5 or maybe 10 more years to develop complexity but
I wonder if this 4th growth terroir has enough going to give it more interest. Some say Talbot could do better. Can the terroir? 89?

Branaire Ducru 2004 is also tight and awkward, so it is in good company.
