TN: 1979 Château Calon-Ségur (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe)

- 1979 Château Calon-Ségur - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe (7/28/2013)
Muddy brick, garnet rim, great nose of cherry, red currants and
cedar. Leads to sleek yet mouthfilling body with diverse
terroir-like, earthy flavors on palate. Old classic claret style from
an average vintage but much appreciated by traditional Bordeaux
stylists. Very long finish. Just great. My heart is at.... 92at least (92 pts.)

I bought the 2008-2009-2010-2011, and hope they will turn like that 1979, or better.

A few years ago Dale Williams brought a Calon Segur 1970 to Jacques's pool party. It was simply fabulous, one of the best wines we had with Jacques's steaks and one of the best 1970s I have tried.

As NAMDS put it, how can your heart not be at Calon if you are a Medoc fan? Love their classic style...But don't know how the coming vintages will turn out due to change of ownership...So just in case, I have hoarded 00, 03, 05, 08, 09, 10 and 11, and looking forward to enjoying those....

I'm guessing that the picture is from CellarTracker, not of the actual bottle consumed? Still a nice pic either way.
