Smoke on the Water - 1996 Pape Clement

Post by Winona Chief »

Very smoky aroma. It was smooth, rich and creamy. Earthy with black cherry, lead pencil and a bit of funk. Mid-weight, well balanced and quite distinctive. Liked this one a lot. It's into its drinking window and one of my favorite 1996s so far. If you want a score, a solid 92-93.

Opened based on the recommendation of johnz (Gary Rust). Glad to have half a dozen more of this.

1996 was good to Graves.

Ohhh an unopened case of '98 -- lucky you Jim. '98 may be even better for Pessac (and PC) -- I have a magnum . . .

Yes I remember Steve H gave me a tip on it, $50 per bottle at a store outside of Boston.
