2009 Les Grands Chenes v. 2009 Caronne Ste. Gemme

Post by JimHow »

Is this Les Grands Chenes a serious wine?
Initially, I have my doubts.
Still way early though.
The Mouton purple color is pretty, anyway.

This Caronne Ste. Gemme is kind of soft at the outset.
A pleasant wine but not a lot of depth.

I'll be interested to see if the "Haut" makes a difference.

Man, both of these wines are boring as a 1993 Batailley. Hopefully they will show something with food....

Well, you can cross both of these wines off of my "buy more" list. There's just not much here to get excited about. I'm particularly amused by His rating of the Grands Chenes, I think he gave it 90 points.

I'll score each of these boring light weight wines 85 points. No technical errors, pleasant enough to drink, but nothing more than solid supermarket level efforts.

I've had the CSG '09 a couple of times and I thought it was pretty good at the price. Maybe it's shutting down? Or the air pressure is too high/low?

Seriously though, Jim, go to the supermarket and pick a half dozen wines randomly...I'll bet all six won't be as good as either of your subject wines above...

The Caronne Ste. Gemme is sipping pleasantly with the game, I'll upgrade it a point or two, not bad at $17 I guess.

Could use another run or two here, Sox!
