2009 Bernadotte v. 2009 Joanin Becot

Post by JimHow »

Checking out the Joanin Becot to see if I like it as much as I did the first time with the idea of possibly buying more.

The 2009 Bernadotte is making a good first impression albeit after only one sip.

The Bernadotte has kind of a nice rustic nose but it seems a bit thin and sour on the palate, at least on the second and third sips.

The Bernadotte is just not that good.
I think these 90 point Parker wines under $20 are a myth.
Maybe a few exceptions, like Lanessan, etc., but I think there are reasons, in spite of Parker, why the prices aren't higher: Because they're not that profound.
It doesn't suck, it's just not that good.
87 points.

You mean Parker isn't all-knowing and aa-powerful? The Wizard of Wine is just a man? I suppose the next thing you'll be telling me is that there's no Santa Claus.

The 14.5 "Parkerized" Joanin Becot is better than the 2009 Bernadotte.
2009 Joanin Becot: 90 points.
2009 Bernadotte: 87 points.

Personnally, I liked the 2009 Château Bernadotte, but after a long decanting. Did you sip it within one or two hours Jim? If so, I understand your comment and rating. It is the kind of wine that transforme itself with 6 to 24 hours of air.

Good point, Nic, we drank most of it within first two hours, and I thought the last sips were better.
I think there's a little left, I'll try it at the. 4 hour mark.

I tried the 2005 tonight at work. Just a quick couple of sips at the end of the day but I think that it's a good, traditional (for 2005) Haut-Medoc that is aging well. I think it will make it nicely to the 10 year mark.
