I predict that Lynch will beat Baron, Tom, and all three 2002s will beat their 2000 counterparts.

I think Jimmy L.B. How is going to have to call in his election supervisors to ensure there are no vote count shennanigans.

If anyone of you are going to have a 12 bottle shipper (or 2) that you don't need to take home with you, please save it for me.

2 would be plenty.

For the record, I am not bringing back BWE-worthy wines -- just some daily drinkers that Winelibrary shipped to me in DC because my rat-fuck state legislators have not allowed direct shipping to Texas.
need a plonk exemption oh benevolent dictator.

Note to self - do not plan a retirement move to Texas.

Howard, you are denigrating rat-fuckers with your comparison of them to Texas legislators.

Jon, I shop online only at selected places that have ways of delivering wine to me that do not violate the (probably unconstitutional) Texas law. Most retailers cannot ship to Texas.

Snowing all day and through the night - should freeze by tomorrow AM and then warm up by noon with further warming into the 50s and maybe 60s but we're likely to have rain and wind, so come prepared.

Here's the lineup of wines that people are bringing for the Saturday blind tasting. I would like them delivered to my room or left for me at the hotel front desk by Friday night. I will double decant and wrap the bottles Saturday afternoon. Email me with details: delta bravo golf (just the letters) at comcast dot net and I'll send you my cell number if you don't already have it.

Howard - are you interested in scoring the blind tasting again this year?

Lisa, a certified public accountant, will perform her usual tally of the votes. As her counsel, I have formed two super-PACs for those of you who wish to contribute monetarily to the electoral process. Consistent with election law, these two PACs will simply discuss issues related the superiority of either wine, but will not support any individual wine by name. Names of donors will not be disclosed.

The names of the independent and completely unaligned PACs are:

Popular Institute for the Compilation of Honorifics, Odd Numbers, Baseballs, And Red ONions
and
League of Yellow Nightingales CHasing Back the AGES.

Contributions to the PACs, which is totally voluntary, and which will not in any way affect the outcome, will be accepted Saturday evening, in small, unmarked bills.
Please write the name of the PAC on the currency strap.

Currency strap, eh? So we're talking a big pile o' bills, right? You must be from some place like Texas, huh?

That carp/trout won't fly in an impoverished burg like DC, where dedicated public servants try to scrape by on the pittance that the gubmint is allowed to pass along as a stipend to those who dedicate their life's toil and strife to the service of the public.

I was thinking more along the lines of half bottles of classified Pauillacs from good years, preferably in original wood cases, put in our trunk Clive-Coates-style...

I'm thinking the 6 '00 vs '02 wines will be scored and the "Sharpest Palate" award determined based on them, with written scorecards turned in.

Then after Howard and Lisa announce the results of that segment of the blind tasting, I'll do a roll-call vote, DC style, for the '89 Lynch vs. Baron.

Mrs. Vino cheats like crazy. She asks all at the table to tell her their opinions while innocently batting her eyes and asking, "are these wines all from France?".

Has Peggy ever not been in the top three? She is so underhanded that the BD should hire her as a consultant. Jim, you should know that Mrs. Vino is well trained. Her father managed my uncle Landslide's first election and schooled Peggy very well.

I know what David is doing in asking for a public roll call vote in the Lynch/Baron voting.
He's hoping that a) I'll publicly vote for Baron and b) that groupthink will set in, that so-and-so will vote for a particular wine because so-and-so voted for it, etc., etc.
In other words, the usual DC ballot-fudging tactics. Skewing the results.
That's okay.
It's okay.
First of all, I am man enough to be wrong if I vote for the Baron. The Baron is a great warrior, he will always have a puncher's chance against the Lynch. We have great respect for the '89 Baron because we fight with class, with respect for our opponents.
As for the public roll call, well, that's fine, too. Lynch '89 is about no excuses, not like these young pretenders of today.
We'll accept the challenge under any rules... heck, we'll fight the Baron in a phone booth.... We are honored to be in the same ring with that great warrior, the 1989 Pichon Baron.

Please, JimHow must no be responsible to tabulate the vote, or count the vote for the wines, of the blind tasting and/or the 1989 Lynch vs 1989 Baron. If so, no need to do the blind tasting and/or the duo fight, as Jim can tell you right now the winners...

To do that job, I want someone that is fair, someone that has integrity, used to democracy, no big head, someone that is not ''vicious'', the BD alter ego : James Suckling!

Well done, Jim. Hey, it wouldn't be any fun without a little pot stirring!

Actually, I've printed ballots which can be completed as privately or publicly as one wishes. One side will have the rankings for the 6 wines in the 2000 vs. 2002 showdown, and the other side will be a simple "Vote for One" for our version of Rocky IV: 1989 Lynch vs. Baron. People who want to compete for the Sharpest Palate (i.e. Best Guesser) Award will need to write their names on their scorecard.

The scorecards will be submitted to and counted in confidence and utmost impartiality by the internationally renowned accounting firm of HM$ and Lisa, and then returned to their owners without divulging any details of the contents.

I have heard rumors Mr. How has resorted to plying underage drinkers with intoxicating liquids in order to manipulate their votes.
Preying on a daughters natural desire to differ from their loving father.
"Oh father, how could you vote for that nasty Pichon Baron. Mr. How said I should vote for Lynch Bages."

Loading up the car and getting ready to press the pedal to the metal.

I must admit that was as low as it gets -- convincing Rob's underage, non-drinking daughter to vote for Lynch -- it did, however, tip the victory by that one lone vote in favor of Lynch in Chucago a few years back. The vote was affirmed by the BWE Supreme Court... I.e., me.
