Sipping on an Italian wine, contemplating minus 40 temps.

Post by JimHow »

I'm sipping on a bottle from that 2004 Ruffino Gold Label case I cracked open earlier in the month.
Pleasant enough, I guess. It's minus 8 F right now, supposed to get down to minus 40 with the windchill tonight.
It is cold as a bastard.

This was a quite watery and thin wine in the end.
Not bad with food, but it really faded fast.

Between -30 and - 32 Celsuis here, since the December 31st, and this is not including winchill...

I went for cross country skiing on the 1st and 2nd of January. Only did 2.5 miles each day, as it was very cold and I was alone.

I will go back today, and I think it is even colder today, like -33 C, but -42 with winchill...

But even this seem more easy than finishing your Chianti!

Nice thing about -40 is that you don't have to say whether it is Celsius or Fahrenheit.

It's been a really cold December here in the Twin Cities, and this week in Northern Minnesota where my Father-in-law lives (Lake Vermillion) it was -43 F WITHOUT windchill. Next Week (Sun/Monday) it is predicted to be even colder -- minus 20F here and minus 50F Up North (w/o windchill considerations). It's the coldest weather here in 20 years, and reminds me of Minn. winters when I was a child. Oh, and it's coming YOUR WAY (Jim -- east that is) :).

Single digits on the way to work this morning - no idea what the wind chill was. Maybe not that cold for Maine, but pretty chilly for down here below the Mason-Dixon line. Got about 5" of snow - not too bad. Did you get slammed again with a big snowfall Jim?

We got about 8 inches, David, the worst snowfall was south of us. The temps are relentless, the ice that fell last week hasn't melted.

I can't even conceive how cold that is.

I remember I was in Stanford CT and it was -17C or 0F and I went outside in a shirt for one minute and I had to stand in a hot shower for 30 mins to thaw out - the coldest I have ever encountered is -26C in Boston, and I had to walk 200 yards in an overcoat. I nearly died.

I almost got over to see you perform on Saturday night, Chasse, I just couldn't quite get over there.

What crazy weather! Minus 20 on the car thermometer the other morning....

I'll tell how cold -40 is, Ian.

If you spit, you hear crackling before the spit hits the ground.

If your eyes water, you might get frost on your face.
