It's colder than a witch's nipple out there.

Post by JimHow »

Damn is it cold!
Have uncorked the 2011 Jadot Clos des Ursules.
Now THIS is what I'm talking about as far as mouth-puckering unpleasantness!
Ironically, I consider this a good thing in this young Burg, it has some meat on it.

Picked up some freshly baked whoopie pies today for my father.
Mmmmm, those of you who haven't booked your trip to DC '14, you don't know what you're missing....

I should have warned you, Jim. Once Ursules broke away from the pack Jadot vinted it for drinking later, I think. That was the right thing to do, IMO. Stick to the Coucherwhateveraroes in the near term.

Anyone who attends a BWE convention for the first time of course is subjected to the ancient secret BWE whoopie pie hazing ritual....

Here the temperatures will get into the mid 20s tonight, which is really low for this part of Texas. My concern is that I have 20 boxes from PC that should arrive tomorrow, but I fear that they are stuck overnight in even colder weather.

Tonight we drank a 2007 St. Innocent Winemaker's Cuvee Pinot Noir. This is the only high end PN Mark makes that is not single vineyard. The grapes come from Freedom Hill and Vitae Springs. This is probably the best '07 Oregon PN we have drunk. The nose is developed with flowers and briar and pepper, and the taste matches well, with the pepper lasting through the entire bottle. It is a solid 92 points on the Lucie/stefan scale.

Mmmmm sounds like a Lucie kind of wine, I'll bet it would go well with a whoopie pie.

Boy what a difference between the Ursules and those two other wines Stefan.
I liked the other two wines in the short-term (<15 years) for their "pleasantness."
I like this wine in the long-term (>15 years) for its "unpleasantness."

…in a brass bra.

Which circle of Dante's Inferno have we descended to here?

Continuing with the cold-as-hell metaphors, does anyone know (without Googling) the origin of the phrase "Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey?"

The days have been warm and I've been surfing quite a bit lately but it did get down to 61 degrees last night. It would be nice to have a fireplace on cold nights like that.

OK Jim,Don't like lawyer/politician jokes. How about blonde jokes and the weather everyone is so pissed at.

Winter Blonde
As a trucker stops for a red light, a blonde catches up. She jumps out of her car runs up to his truck and knocks on the door. The trucker lowers the window and she says, “Hi, my name is Heather and you are losing some of your load.”
The trucker ignores her and proceeds down the street. When the trucker stops for another red light, the girl catches up again. She jumps out of her car runs up to his truck and knocks on the door. Again, the trucker lowers the window. As if they’ve never spoken, the blonde says brightly, “Hi, my name is Heather and you are losing some of your load!”
Shaking his head, the trucker ignores her again and continues down the street. At the third red light, the same thing happens again. All out of breath, the blonde gets out of her car, runs up knocks on the truck door. The trucker rolls down the window. Again she says “Hi, my name is Heather and you are losing some of your load!”
When the light turns green the trucker revs up and races to the next light. When he stops this time, he hurriedly gets out of the truck and runs back to the blonde. He knocks on her window and after she lowers it, he says….. “ Hi, my name is Mark, it’s winter in Kansas and I’m driving the SALT TRUCK!”

Bring your foul weather gear to the convention, everyone - I don't think this is going to be a "let's take a walk around the tidal basin to see the cherry blossoms" kind of year.

I think you're right Tom.
Rain, cold, sleet, Snow, ice up here, we are expecting 12 inches of snow.. But not just snow, it's gonna be a sheet if ice as well. Had the furnace guy over this morning.
It's a nor'easter. In mid march.

Here in Vegas it is a very pleasant 66F. We have a beautiful view from our 22nd floor room of the old airport and the mountains.

Corkage is not a problem here. Last night at Aquanox it was $35 and it is the same tonight at the Mesa Grill. Emboldened by the success with a ''99 1er Cru Burgundy a week ago, we drank a '99 Gambal Clos Vougeot. That was a mistake as it is still closed up. The structure is great, though, and such be excellent when we revisit it in five years. Tonight we'll drink one of the Bordeaux we brought and take the Restaurant Week menu.

There is a wonderful exhibition of mostly Bostonian women painters at the museum at the Bellagio. There is also a nice gallery of Richard MacDonald sculptures, ranging in price from under $4000 to around $182,000. We looked but did not buy. The Bellagio also has an entire room dedicated to real poker, so I know where to go if I need some easy money.

It is 12 degrees out there and VERY windy. It feels like zero.
It is not even the foot of snow that is bothering me, it is this damned cold.
They are calling for single digits through next Wednesday, when another snow storm is predicted.

Been sub zero temps up here all week at night.
That's bad enough, but the worse news is that they are calling for freezing temps into next week.
Now they're saying it's going to be a record cold March.
Geez.

That I can't see my driveway from my house because of the snowbanks as we approach the end of March is sick. They are calling for 3 more inches tonight, more snow on Saturday, and more snow on Tuesday.

But you know, it's not even the snow that is killing me, it is this damned relentless cold!
