I know I've had this Fombrauge in the past, I'll have to check my past notes. It seems La Tour Carnet like to me at first blush.

Holy smoke is this a Jeff Leve kind o wine.
15 %... Hot... Super concentrated.
La Tour Carnet like.
The demise of this wine, someday, is not going to be pretty.
But let's see how it matches up against the tenderloins and pie de la whoopie tonight....

The 2009 Berliquet also has an inky purple color.
Less La Tour Carnet like on the nose and palate though.
Initially, it seems almost boring as a 93 Batailley.

Yes but you know sometimes boring us good.
I'll have to reserve judgment until after they are matched up with the steaks and pie de la whoopie.
My guess is that the Fombrauge would go well with a nice fatty ribeye, but we are having tenderloins tonight... and whoopie.

Jim, you're drinking a lot of Right Bank Bordeaux lately, and you seem to like them! This is kind of scary...

The real question: are you drinking/enjoying those sexy/plush/modern/commercial/success story/the mass converting Right Bank red Bordeaux, since you decided to run for Congress?

No more scandals, I'll say and like what everyones/critics say and like, type of turnover from your part?
You don't want to be the man who likes and promote the 13% alcohol, Cabernet Sauvignon, hard to like/understand Médoc? Are you starting to think that your family name should be changed for Rolland, Magrez or Perse?

Before you're doomed, we'll fix you in only 9 days... With nice Pomerol?

Who is this man?
He is staring at me during dinner.

Christian Moueix put his image on Dominus for the first few years, but must have decided that was a bad idea. I find the Lafleur-style label much more becoming. Perhaps Mssr. Magrez will come that conclusion, but he was never the son of a simple farmer...

It would be more creepy if the image was on the inside of the front label, looking at you through the wine.

You know what's really funny, as I described this wine as "La Tour Carnet like," I never realized he owns La Tour Carnet.

Yuck.

Yeah, I was pretty impressed by that when I saw he owned both.

He owns a lot of wineries not just in France but also in Spain, California and South America. I met him on that infamous occasion in 2005 where he was the guest of honour at a tasting of some of his wines and those of his mate Gerard Depardieu. All the other wines made his Pape Clements look restrained.

His business plan has been a no-brainer: to make spoofulated wines to attract higher scores and higher prices. The Depardieu wines were diabolical. And if you think Fombrauge is over the top you should try his super cuvee Magrez Fombrauge.

I recently released a case of 2001 Berliquet from storage and the 2001 is very boring. Very correct. Very modern. Very boring. However it tasted a lot better after four days, and it wasn’t oxidised.
