Sounds Like A Great Time

Post by dstgolf »

While everyone was enjoying a cornucopia of delectible wines I was suffering being educated in Boca. Could be worse things in life but nice to see everyone had a great time.

Hilite of the week was having our own little BWE offline event Friday after completion of the CME with Kathy and Stuart in Delray Beach for dinner. Happy to report both are very alive and well also disappointed they missed the festivities in DC. We tried our best to have our own commemerative dinner starting with 2005 Cristal Rose. Light bodied, smmooth with strawberry background and a nice way to get dinner underway.

Two heavy hitters with dinner and it was an uncontested first round knockout with the 82 Latour devastating the 82 Mouton. The Mouton was just not up to the challenge on this evenning when in the past I believe Mouton has certainly gone toe to toe if not taking down the Latour. Maybe just bottle variation.

On this evening Latour was open for business and reminded me of the dark knight showing all black fruits...cherry,blackberry,plums etc etc with nice charred tarry notes. Smooth and incredible length. A nose you could drown in.

Mouton was muted with subtle lighter fruits on the nose but closed by comparison. Did not show the depth or length that I expect from this usually stellar wine. Probably on its own it would have shown better but certainly on this night it was struck down by a far superior wine.

Delicious meal at 32 East and would highly recommend if you are in the area. BWE companions as always were great with fun conversation about wine occasionally and everything else we could come up with , but as always the night ended too soon.

Thanks to Kathy & Stuart for making our last night in South Florida special and more thanks to BWE for making these introductions to new lasting friendships possible. To me this board has been more about the people we have met that the wine consumed.

Stuart is good people.....A few years ago he not only sourced a few cases of 2001 Riesling for me, he took the initiative of shipping it to me....still storing a few bottles for when we get together with PappaDoc again.....he's the resident Riesling maven and i miss his presence dearly.

Great to read that you guys had fun, good company, and good dinner/wine.

I feel like I owe something to both of you, Stuart and Danny, for the last dinner I had with each other. One day, the stars will be aligned and I'll fix that.

And Emil, you did not made it to DC?

Thank you, Danny. We are so glad you and Danielle could join us. It was a fun evening on a range of topics of conversation.

You nailed the wines perfectly, of course.

In the past, when I have done a battle of the '82 heavyweights, the Mouton usually was just a slight bit more interesting due to outs broader range of flavors making it more flamboyant.

But while the Latour was purchased on release, the Mouton was not. I bought it from a (former) wine friend who bought it some liquor store somewhere about 15 years ago (long story). While both bottles have levels at the low neck, the Latour cork was firm and moist, while the Mouton cork was dry and fell into the bottle.

I'll do better next time, but I might force you to drink a Pomerol.

Uh, oh, Stuart's threatening you with that Putrid wine again. Or is it Petrified wine? Something rocky. Petrus? Putrid? Petrified? Something like that. Beware...

Stuart,

It was great seeing you and Kathy again. The wine was a plus but secondary for sure. I hate to say it but some of my best wine experiences have been from Pomerol!. Simple but sexy bottle of Chateau La Pointe popped in the heart of Burgundy a few years back for lunch started one of the most memorable afternoons/nights for my wife and I. If that's what an entry level Pomerol does then who needs Viagra for women. I can't put to print what Petrus, Certain de May, Lafleur, Lafleur Petrus etc has unleashed in Danielle. Mention Pomerol to that girl and it works magic!!!!.... Any time anywhere!

Great time David FYI and I only look forward to getting together again and if Pomerol is on the agenda I know that I will be a very happy and satisfied man indeed.
