Interesting. The misuse of the "the law of large numbers" made me cringe, though.

Coravin sent me a "stop using it until we send you a neoprene sleeve" email a couple of days ago. Coravin is estimating 1:78,000 bottles breaking, but they don't have any true knowledge of either the numerator or denominator. My read of their description doesn't sound like bottles are exploding into many sharp shards. I think they've been pretty responsible about addressing the problem. In any case, I think the risk is very low, especially if you use very short bursts of gas. I don't intend to stop using mine.

The Pungo, a similar gadget which is still in development, avoids the pressure issue by virtue of a two-way needle-within-a-needle that allows simultaneous gas inflow and wine outflow. They have a great opportunity here if they can just get their device to market.

Coravin is overpriced, IMO, given the cartridge prices so the pungo is appealing.
