Mine.

www.bordeauxwineblog.com
(it's a minor miracle that the domain name was not already taken)

OK, it still needs a lot of tweaking (the sidebar menus are no good, for instance) but the darned thing is online, and I will do my best to keep it going.

I'm no computer specialist, but friends are helping me with the layout and design and things should fall into place in the coming weeks.

The blog is totally non-commercial.
I very much look forward to getting out there in the wine country and visiting the unsung heroes and sharing information about them with wine lovers.

But I have nothing against the great growths, believe me!
I hope to attend some interesting vertical tastings in the future and report on them.

Yours truly,
Alex

Alex:

Where is the quiz?

Speaking of that, where is it for BWE?

Tell me about a dry white from Medoc from Tour Blanche?

Looks good, Alex. I think your chosen niche, the unsung, reasonably priced wines of Bordeaux, is an excellent one. It's clearly an area you love. And even if they don't generate the buzz of the top great growths, people should be interested in which ones represent good value vs. those that are the "thin, weedy dross."

It would be really helpful if you could include some information about availability of the wines from the producers you highlight. Not just a list or tasting notes on the current releases, but who imports them, so we can seek them out in the US. Or a statement that they are only distributed in the EU, or only in France. If a fair number of them are not exported, you might also ask yourself if there is enough domestic (French!) interest to post in both French and English. Good luck!

Congratulations, Alex. The site looks good and goal is a worthy one IMO.

Congratulations Alex but, eh, who needs anything other than BWE.
That's my credo.
I wish you luck but my life is too complicated to read anything more than BWE.
The Internet is littered with websites that have come and gone during the 15 year history of Bordeaux Wine Enthusiasts.
BWE is the best.
BWE forever.

Hi Guys,

Michael,

I ran the quiz for several years. I suffered from burn-out after a while. Also, it got to where anyone could find the answer in 2 minutes on Google, so the motivation just wasn’t there. But I still have all the questions – and answers – on my hard disk. As for Château Tour Blanche in Saint-Christoly (Médoc), this is a Bernard Margrez wine. As far as I know, don’t make a white.

David,

I’d love to say where the wines can be found in the US and elsewhere, but I’m afraid I’m out of my depth there. Perhaps, when I do other château profiles, I can ask about American distribution, although I have understood that nationwide importers/distributors are not all that common in the US i.e. a lot goes through regional ones.
I also thought about making the blog bilingual, but everyone tells me that such solutions really don’t work: it’s got to be either one language or the other.

Jim,

I felt I needed something other than BWE because I never figured out how to post photos on the forum and also because I wanted to have Twitter and Facebook feed as well as ways of archiving château profiles and tasting notes.
I perfectly understand that you do not have the time to read my blog, and that others are not interested in non-classified wines.
As for the life span of my blog, I’m pretty motivated and I think it’ll be around for a good long while :-). I’m no spring chicken… The blog will give me plenty of scope to occupy my time when I retire. Keep me out of my wife’s hair!
My blog and BWE are two very different things. A blog is personal, whereas BWE is a community. I will continue to post on BWE, which I look at a minimum of twice a day, and am gung-ho about the BWE Magical Mystery Tour next May. In other words, I do not see my blog as a substitute for BWE, but as complementary.

Yours truly,
Alex
