89 Lynch for BD?

Post by Michael-P »

BD:

A few days ago I dropped off my one pristine mag of 89 Lynch at an auction house for sale (sadly, too many non-wine expenses lately) but then thought maybe you would want it? At least then we both save the auction fees. I didn't do a PM in case someone else really wanted it. And I have an OWC of 89 Lynch in my cellar that will be going a similar route in another week or so, unless you speak up. Thanks!

What're you looking to fetch for them MichaelP?
89 Lynch has gotten a little priced out of my range these days, I have that one half bottle left and that 750 that was given to me at the last convention.

A full case came up at zachys auction yesterday. The results aren't up yet, but I seem to remember $3200 hammer.

I'm sure you can get that at auction Michael, that's more than what I can afford for a mag though.

I would pay $2400 for a case but those days are gone.
$3200 actually seems low Musigny, how are you finding auction prices these days?

Seriously overpriced, often over retail. No bargains. Every single area now has its experts, and the insider doesn't gain anything.

It is a totally different market to five years ago; live internet bidding means that it's global, very knowledgeable and NOTHING slips through the cracks. Friends who made a slight living buying and selling wines at a small profit because they had a little more knowledge can't find anything, and most of them aren't even bothering.

Those days are very long gone. $340 a bottle all in is enough for that wine.

I was bidding on single bottles earlier this year and was giving up when they hit $400 per bottle.

Once in a while you can get a bottle for low 300s. But you just have to keep looking consuming a lot of time...Just yesterday, a bottle at kl auctions was sold for 310, and that is cheap these days... :(

I have one 750 and a 375, CV, which I will drink in my old age.
I think the appeal of MichaelP's inventory is the OWC.
I would think he could get well over $300 per bottle for that case.
As Musigny pointed out, there are people hooked into the internet and everywhere else who will outbid practically anyone in the rest of the 99%.
I don't order from PC anymore, especially pre-arrival.

Sitting here in court Danny, I'm just completely overwhelmed with work, I just don't personally have any time to devote to the project. I'm dealing with having to prepare for dozens of witnesses, complex DNA science, jury selections, month-long trials, etc., etc. It is relentless and un-ending. On top of that, I am the primary care taker of my soon to be 90 year old father, who had yet another bad fall last week. It is my understanding that Timmy, Comte and Alex have been doing some planning. My assignment has been to talk to Jeff Leve, I hope to do that soon.

I'm not giving up on it, Danny, I just can't take much of a role in the planning.
I say we go third week of May.
